Retreats in Utah

And why rent a car and live in and out of hotels when you can enjoy Utah’s winter fun on your own time frame from the comforts of home that an RV brings? If a winter RV retreat sounds like your kind of Utah adventure, here are some of the activities you can do and places to stay along the way.

3 Winter RV Retreats in Utah

Northern Utah

From Ogden to Brigham City to Logan, Northern Utah may not be as talked about, but it offers plenty of winter fun. If you’re into skiing and snowboarding, head to the slopes in Snowbasin, Powder Mountain, or Nordic Valley, all in the Ogden area. You can also test your skills a different way by ice skating at Eccles Ice Center in Logan. Or if you’re in town at the end of December, make time to drive to Brigham City to attend the Winter Steam Festival.

As far as where to park your mobile vacation home, you’ve got a handful of choices. In Ogden, you can park at Century Mobile Home & RV Park, which only has full-hookup sites complete with amp electric, water and sewer services and can accommodate up to 40-foot RVs. It’s also only about a 30-40 minute drive to each ski resort. Brigham City is home to Golden Spike RV Park, a park that has 38 pull-through sites, laundry services, Wi-Fi and is easily accessed from I-15. In Utah State territory, stay at Traveland RV Park, an RV park providing full RV hookups, pull-through sites, Wi-Fi, laundry, and more.

Salt Lake Valley

The heart of Utah thrives during wintertime, offering beautiful scenery and plenty of family-friendly winter activities. In just 30-45 minutes, you’ll find yourself at 6 of the state’s top ski resorts: Solitude, Brighton, Snowbird, Alta, Park City, and Deer Valley. For RV travelers with small kids, take them sledding down the hills at Sugar House Park or check out all the sites, attractions, food, and fun facts that historic Temple Square has to offer. There’s also snowshoeing in Park City or cross-country skiing and tubing at Soldier Hollow.

As with things to do, Salt Lake City and its surrounding areas also have numerous RV parks that keep you close to whatever you want to do. Salt Lake City KOA is the closest full-service RV park to downtown Salt Lake or just a bit south of SLC is the Pony Express RV Resort. The first can accommodate 80-foot RVs, has a hot tub, and offers 2 RV washes during your stay, while the latter has various-sized back-in and pull-through concrete sites, water, sewer, free Wi-Fi, and cable and is less than a 15 minute drive from downtown. Park City goers can stay at a full-service park that’s only 10 minutes from Canyons Resort at Park City RV Resort. Beautiful Heber City has two great RV parks in River’s Edge RV Resort and Mountain Valley RV Resort. River’s Edge has 55 and 80-foot pull-through sites with full hookups, a laundry center, plus other amenities. It’s also close to Park City, state parks, and is just steps away from the Provo River—a great place for winter fly-fishing. Mountain Valley comes highly rated and has 95 full-hookup sites, a guided valet to take you to your site, RV supplies, free Wi-Fi and cable, and more. At the resort, there are fun games to play and a dog park, and even more recreational things to do in Heber Valley.

Southern Utah

Like several Utahans and out-of-towners, many fly (or in your case driving your RV) south during Utah’s winters. From visiting Utah’s Mighty 5—Arches, Canyonlands, Capitol Reef, Bryce Canyon, and Zion National Parks—to golfing in St. George and visiting the only place in the U.S. where four states meet, Southern Utah will keep you entertained for weeks.

Once you’ve devised your game plan of what to do, it’s time to decide where you’ll stay. Each national park has on-site, RV-friendly sites, but many are unserviced sites. So if you don’t want to rough it while RV camping, each national park also has nearby RV parks, like Ruby’s Inn RV Park & Campground near Bryce Canyon and Moab Valley RV Resort & Campground near Arches. The latter is also near the Four Corners area, as is Blue Mountain RV and Trading, offering full hookups, pet-walking areas, and scenic views. In the deserts of St. George, stay at the pet-friendly St. George RV Park where they offer Wi-Fi, cable, water and amp hookups, and shady areas. This park is close to attractions like Tuacahn and Zion National Park, as well as many restaurants.
