The future Tulum International Airport was visited by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador during a tour of the construction site. The president visited the construction sites with Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa after arriving in Chetumal on Saturday.
Both parties stated that the airport will be completed in December of this year.
“We are carrying out for the first time the evaluation of section 5 of the Maya Train where the Tulum Airport, Felipe Carrillo Puerto, is being built, a new marvel of civil-military engineering and the work of exceptional Mexican workers.”
“In December it will be possible to fly to anywhere in Mexico and the world,” López Obrador posted on his social media.
In a statement, Lezama said that on Saturday, section 5 of the Maya Train was evaluated, and section 6’s development was monitored directly next to the new Tulum International Airport, which will enable the connection in Quintana Roo to expand to accommodate the state’s growing passenger population of more than 30 million annually.
The new international airport, “expected to be ready by December of this year,” according to Governor Lezama, is being built thanks to the civil-military engineering efforts of the Secretary of National Defense.
About Tulum Airport
The construction of Felipe Carrillo Puerto, popularly known as the Tulum Airport, is a massive undertaking that will occupy approximately 3,000 acres.
It will be a mixed-use airport serving both the military and the civilian population. It will be part of a larger military city that will include a series of buildings, including a building for boarding lounges and a passenger terminal.
In addition to the standard buildings and structures found on a military installation, the project also includes roads, parking lots, a control tower, and other amenities.
Location Of The Airport
The exact location of the airport will be in the municipality of Felipe Carrillo Puerto.
Tulum is about an hour away, but a major highway will connect the airport region to Tulum, so it will be easy to travel there from the well-known tourist spot.
Felipe Carrillo Puerto and Tulum are both located in the Mexican state of Quintana Roo, which is also home to Playa del Carmen, Cozumel and Cancun.
