Ocean Prime Philadelphia Restaurant: Our Favorite Fine-Dining Chain

Lunch at Ocean Prime Philadelphia

One thing with traveling is that you can experience different restaurants with unique menus and flavors all the time. In other words, when it comes to fine dining, I have never returned to the same restaurant (if in multiple locations) twice. At least until I found Ocean Prime Philadelphia, it’s one of the best fine dining chain restaurants around, and I’ll let you know why.

Never say never!

After our incredible and unforgettable experience at the Ocean Prime Atlanta Restaurant, I couldn’t believe this but when planning our trip to Philly, I was silently hoping that there was an Ocean Prime here as well.

And it was!

And if I thought our first dining-out time with them was awesome, I’m almost embarrassed to say that our second at the Ocean Prime Philadelphia (almost) overshadowed the first. BTW, if I was to return to Atlanta, I’d go back there in a heartbeat.

Why You Should Visit Ocean Prime Philly?

Aside from the incredible food (more on that below) and most unique cocktails ever, it’s the atmosphere and the people that work there that truly make the difference. If anything, the Ocean Prime team is doing something really right with how they treat their employees as family and allow them to fully express their creative gifts. And I’m not talking about the chef, but also the bartenders, managers, and wait staff. I know this sounds ridiculous, but it’s truly one of the most perfect eateries we’ve eaten at.

For example, I enjoy speaking to the chefs whenever they are around. I had the chance to talk to both executive chefs from Atlanta and Philadelphia. And both of them, almost word for word, said that they were so happy to never worry about writing a resume again because they have found their home for life.

I’ll get real with you, I’ve spoken to quite a few chefs in my day. I even graduated from Johnson and Wales University (Emril Lagasse’s Alma Mater). I have never encountered this before. And trust me when I say it truly makes a difference when the most important customers, your staff, were this happy.

Of course, if the food sucks, even if the staff were stellar, I wouldn’t want to come back. So you can imagine that the food had some magnetic pull in our return. This time we came with friends which upped the ante on the fun factor. Nothing beats a great dining experience than with friends and good food and Ocean Prime drinks.

Our Food Adventure in Photos

Instead of describing each morsel of food, here’s the perfect way to show off Ocean Prime’s best features.

NOTE: One thing about Ocean Prime is that they have one of the most unique and exotic options for cocktails. So much so, I have a full article just on that. For now, I’ll focus solely on the foodie pleasures.

Appetizers

Ahi Tuna Tartare – I’m not a tuna fan. As a matter of fact, it’s something I like to stay clear of. However, when everyone else ordered this dish, I couldn’t help myself with all their ooohhs and aaahs. And there is a reason why this is an award winning dish.

Sonoma Goat Cheese Ravioli – Yummmmmm, is really the only way to describe it. I regret not getting two portions of it.

Lobster Bisque – I love soup and always find a reason to get at least one small cup.

Salad – They have such a large selection of fresh salads, that it’s hard not to try at least one.

Main Dishes and Sides

One of the things I remembered most about this restaurant is that they offered a large variety of sides to go with some of the main dishes.

Sea Scallops with Risotto – I actually had this when we visited Atlanta. Sea Scallops, especially as large as theirs, are my absolute favs and I only get a chance to enjoy them once a year, if that much.

Maryland Crab Melt Sandwich – since we were here for lunch we could choose from their lunch menu as well as their dinner, which serves some fun sandwiches.

Creamed Spinach – this is one of the cool sides

Black Truffle Mac and Cheese – this was my favorite. I didn’t let anyone else eat it. To say the least, I was full of creamy goodness from this and the Risotto.

Even though it is a city, there is parking along the street or you can find a parking lot within a block away.
