Bali to Receive First Flight from China Since the Pandemic began

Bali has announced that a chartered flight carrying 210 Chinese people is due to depart from Shenzhen and land in Bali on Sunday. This would be the first direct trip from China to the resort island since the start of the pandemic, an official said.

The chairman of the Bali Province Tourism Agency, Tjokorda Bagus Pemayun, was quoted by the news agency Antara as claiming that his department had obtained confirmation from Indonesia’s Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy.

“On Jan. 22 there will be a chartered flight from Shenzhen, China. The number of passengers is 210,” he said.

However, they would not be the first Chinese visitors to land in Bali following the pandemic. The agency had previously reported that Bali began to receive hundreds of Chinese visitors each month in late 2022, although most of them arrived via Singapore or Jakarta.

This could signal the reintroduction of regular flights between China and Bali. Chinese tourists were among the most numerous on the island before the pandemic. 1,186, 057 arrivals, or about 20 percent, arrived from China in 2019, out of a total of 6,275,210 documented arrivals.

Tjokorda stated that the island anticipates their government will soon announce frequent flights from China.

Despite the rising number of COVID-19 cases in China, Indonesia has not placed a travel ban on Chinese citizens. Nevertheless, as of the day that this article was published, there are no regular flights connecting China with Indonesia.
