According to recent research, 50.7 million Americans would travel 50 miles or more from home throughout the Fourth of July holiday travel period, setting a new record for the holiday’s travel period.
As per information from AAA Travel, the number of Americans traveling domestically during the long weekend will rise by 2.1 million compared to 2022 and should surpass the 49 million mark for that year.
During the holiday season, 43.2 million individuals are predicted to travel by car, up 2.4 percent from 2022 and 4% from 2019. This is a record-high number of travelers, according to AAA.
The data shows that a record 4.17 million Americans will fly to their destinations during the vacation period. That’s 6.6 percent more than in 2019 and 11.2 percent more than in 2022, according to the estimates.
“We’ve never projected travel numbers this high for Independence Day weekend,” AAA Travel Senior Vice President Paula Twidale said. “What this tells us is that despite inventory being limited and some prices 50% higher, consumers are not cutting back on travel this summer.”
“Many of them heeded our advice and booked early, another sign of strong travel demand,” Twidale continued.
3.36 million people are anticipated to travel by bus, boat, or train over the Fourth of July, 24 percent more than last year, according to AAA. Despite the fact that more travelers are using different modes of transportation this year, the 3.54 million from 2019 is not expected to be surpassed.
The cost of travel has increased overall in 2023, with hotel stays and airline flights both rising by 40-50% compared to last year, but vehicle rentals are somewhat down from the previous year.
