Traveling with a baby can be difficult. Here are some tips to make it easier.

Traveling can be challenging, especially if you’re traveling with a baby. You have to know what to bring and how to make the travel time easier. Here are some ideas on how to make the travel time better for everyone involved.

1. Bring A Breast Pump

If you are breastfeeding, you need to bring a breast pump along with bottles. You can use one of the better ones, like Willow Breast Pump, and by pumping your milk beforehand, you can feed your baby formula during the flight without taking up as much space with all of that breast milk. This makes it easier to stow away your bags and get settled into your seat.

2. Bring Plenty Of Diapers And Wipes

Anytime you travel with an infant, make sure to bring lots of diapers and wipes (wet ones, too). Whether you pack them in carry-on or check-in luggage is up to you; however, having lots on hand will definitely come in handy.

3. Keep The Kids Entertained By Bringing Toys, Books, And Blankets

Pack a couple of favorite stuffed animals or books along with some toys to keep your baby busy during the flight. This also keeps them occupied when they are awake. You can even pick up one of those kids’ meal deals if you’re traveling through an airport that offers it. Sometimes, these are free!

4. Have Clear Expectations About How Long It’ll Take To Get Off The Plane Once It Lands

If you have an infant in tow, the chances are good that you’ll have to wait a while for everyone to get off the plane as soon as you’re allowed to, remove your child’s seat belt, and let them roam around a bit. Once you land, keep an eye on your surroundings and what is going on around you. If it looks like people are getting up from their seats or exiting, go ahead and do the same thing.

5. Bring A Blanket

When your baby falls asleep, bring out the blanket. This keeps him on their lap and comfortable when they’re trying to sleep. If you’re worried about keeping them warm while they are sleeping, pack an extra sweater or jacket for yourself to keep warm while carrying your child around. There is also other stuff you can get; there are many resources online.

6. Carry On Some Food

If you’re breastfeeding, you should carry some snacks with you because the chances are good that you’ll be hungry while waiting for the plane to land and during your layover. Also, keep some binky’s (pacifiers) in your pocket if they’re still young enough to use them. Maybe even a sippy cup of water or formula too, so they don’t get thirsty or hungry.

7. Bring Something To Entertain Yourself

You can’t go anywhere without your cell phone nowadays, so make sure it is fully charged before heading out on your trip. If not, charge it up as soon as possible once you arrive at the airport. It might also be wise to bring along some paperbacks or magazines, just in case you’re waiting for your next flight. There are usually places to buy these in the airport, but if not, you can always ask a friendly airline employee where you might find reading material.

8. Be Flexible With Travel Time

For most people with infants, these types of trips can drag on forever because you’re stuck sitting in one spot for about thirty minutes. Prior to leaving your house, make sure you have all your entertainment devices fully charged so they don’t die out while you are gone.

9. Keep In Mind That Babies Sometimes Get Fussy When They’re Tired

When it’s time for bed, let them sleep if possible. If not, hold the baby in your arms or in a carrier and give them cuddles or back rubs; this might calm them down again. To pass the time more quickly when there’s nothing else to do, play peek-a-boo with them too if they like games like that!

10. Bring Along An Extra Change Of Clothing

It’s always wise to have an extra change of clothing for yourself or your child if you are planning on changing their diapers. It’s happened before where accidents happen and having a spare outfit can come in very handy. If you have an infant, this is especially important.
