The ports of Cozumel and Mahahual in Quintana Roo received more than 100 cruise ships in the first two weeks of this year, consolidating the region’s position as a leader in this segment.

The aim is to extend the length of stay of the ships and generate more revenue to benefit tourism workers and their families.

Leading cruise ports in Mexico

In the state of Quintana Roo, Mexico, Cozumel and Costa Maya are the only two cruise ports. Cozumel is not only the most visited port of call on roundtrip voyages from the USA to the Western Caribbean but also ranks as the world’s fourth-largest cruise port by berthing capacity and annual cruise shipping volumes.

Costa Maya, on the other hand, is Mexico’s second-largest cruise port and is specifically built for cruise ships. It can serve large-sized passenger liners and is known for attracting international tourists with various attractions and activities.

These two ports significantly contribute to the cruise traffic in Mexico, with Cozumel leading in the number of ship calls and tourists received.
