Colin Cowherd was made look foolish by LeBron James in 2016, after a pundit said that 'Those days are over'

LeBron James is one of the best players in NBA history. Meanwhile, Colin Cowherd is one of the most polarizing pundits in sports media since several of his takes are terrible.

So it shouldn’t come as a surprise that LeBron made Cowherd look like the most foolish analyst in sports media history after the Fox Sports critic said “those days are over” for the King back in 2016.

Colin Cowherd in 2016: LeBron James can’t score 45 points anymore

After LeBron and the Cleveland Cavaliers fell down 2-0 to the Golden State Warriors in the 2016 Finals, Cowherd seemingly delivered a eulogy to LBJ’s career. He made it seem like the Chosen One was done winning championships and beginning to slow down.

“LeBron James reminds me a little bit now of a pitcher post-Tommy John Surgery,” Cowherd said in 2016. “Or a really great pitcher in the last three years of his career. You’re not gonna get a 45-point night from him. Those days are over. He is not as impactful as he used to be. In the end, we’re seeing the LeBron that is 31. He’s not gonna chase ya down and block ya from behind. He is no longer an A-plus scorer and an A-plus defender.”

Cowherd said this after LeBron averaged 21.0 points, 10.0 rebounds, and 9.0 assists in the first two games of the 2016 Finals. He probably wishes he never opened his mouth because the Akron native has been nothing short of spectacular since these comments went viral.

LeBron James did everything Colin Cowherd said he couldn’t do

LeBron averaged 29.7 points, 11.3 rebounds, 8.9 assists, and 2.3 blocks in the 2016 Finals, leading the Cavaliers to their first championship in franchise history. He scored 41 points in Games 5 and 6 and recorded arguably the biggest chase-down block in NBA history in Game 7 on Andre Iguodala, something Cowherd said L-Train couldn’t do anymore.

The Cavaliers became the first team in NBA history to win a championship after trailing 3-1. LeBron won his third title and third Finals MVP, but he wasn’t done yet. The four-time MVP won his fourth ring and fourth Finals MVP in 2020 with the Los Angeles Lakers, becoming the first player ever to win three Finals MVPs with different teams.

Cowherd thought father time caught up to LeBron in 2016. He couldn’t have been more wrong. In fact, father time may never catch King James.

The King is still elite in Year 19

LeBron is 37 and in his 19th season in the NBA. However, he’s still putting up superstar numbers. The future Hall of Famer is averaging 28.8 points, 7.6 rebounds, and 6.4 assists while shooting 51.7% from the field, 36.4% from beyond the arc, and 75.4% from the free-throw line this season. LeBron is second in the league in scoring despite the Lakers being putrid.

Against the Indiana Pacers on January 19, LeBron grabbed his 10,000th career rebound. He’s now the only player in NBA history with 30,000 points, 10,000 rebounds, and 9,000 assists.

Cowherd has been delivering horrible takes for years. However, his opinion on LeBron back in 2016 has to be the coldest take in sports history.
