The Buffalo Bills and Kansas City Chiefs meet once again in the NFL Playoffs, with the winner hosting the AFC Championship Game. Sure, things are different from a year ago, but it’s still Josh Allen against Patrick Mahomes in a massive matchup.
The Bills quarterback has been on fire, and he even drew an interesting Cam Newton comparison from Chiefs LB Anthony Hitchens.
Josh Allen draws interesting Cam Newton comparison
That sure is an interesting way to put it. And no, Hitchens isn’t referring to the Cam Newton that we’ve seen play the last couple of seasons.
On the surface, this comparison makes sense. Allen stands at 6’5″, 237 lbs. while Newton is 6’5″ and 245 lbs. The physical attributes are eerily similar.
Both quarterbacks are known for their mobility, and Newton’s ability to run the ball was something the NFL hadn’t seen a lot of before he was taken No. 1 overall in the 2011 NFL Draft. In his rookie year, he rushed for 14 scores, and even his 2020 season with the New England Patriots netted him 12 rushing touchdowns, with Josh McDaniels utilizing his ability perfectly.
Allen is similar in that regard, as he finished the regular season with six rushing scores and 763 yards — both good for second on the team. Allen was just over 100 yards shy of Devin Singletary for the team’s leading rusher, so yeah, maybe the Newton-Allen comparisons aren’t that far off at all.

Allen is quickly taking the NFL by storm, and if he can channel Newton’s 2015 NFL MVP form, the Bills might break the curse and make a run to the Super Bowl. Allen has an MVP season already and should easily be a frontrunner for the award.

Somehow, Allen was left off of the AFC Pro Bowl roster. Still, the Bills QB is playing at a high level this season and has the Bills in striking distance of a trip to the Super Bowl.
His 2020 regular season stats were better all-around, but there is no denying his importance to this team. In the 2021 season, Allen has compiled 4,407 yards with 36 touchdowns and 15 interceptions while winning the AFC East and destroying the Patriots in the Wild Card Round.
A couple of weeks before that, Allen went nuclear against the Patriots with an eye-popping stat line as his MVP case began to grow even more.
A rematch against Mahomes and the Chiefs and a victory would likely boost Allen’s MVP campaign and give Buffalo a chance for the Super Bowl at home. Prepare the tables.
The Bills want to forget last year’s AFC title game and get revenge on the Chiefs
Last postseason, Bills wide receiver Stefon Diggs stayed on the field and watched the Chiefs celebrate as they moved on to the Super Bowl.
This time, the Bills still have that on their minds as they go into Arrowhead Stadium again. The good news?
Buffalo defeated the Chiefs earlier this season, although both teams look much different now. Mahomes just tossed five touchdown passes in beating the Pittsburgh Steelers, although Allen also had five touchdown passes last week against the Patriots.
Is this the year the Bills get revenge? Or do the Chiefs send Buffalo home?
If Allen can continue to play like an MVP, the Bills should have a pretty good chance at canceling the Chiefs’ plans for a trip to Los Angeles.
