Tour Ideas While You Travel to Barcelona

If you’ve gone for a visit to Barcelona, you have to know you can’t jam everything you need to see in one visit. This is not one of those cities you get to visit once and move on! The culture, the architecture, the history, the food, and the surroundings are so diverse and alluring that you may lose your head when trying to choose your activities. So, to avoid leaving Barcelona frustrated, I recommend starting with a tour. Of course, if you stay for more than a few days, you can take several tours, but first-timers should always talk to a specialized guide. Here are several ideas for a tour in Barcelona, know what are your options, and you can take more out of the city.

Tour Ideas While You Travel to Barcelona

Now, if you want to make an idea of the types of tours you can get while in Barcelona, I had a chat with Barcelona Exclusive Guides and learned about the most popular attractions they offer to tourists.

Tours in Barcelona, Spain

The Buildings

I recommend taking your time on this tour because each building is special in its own way. For instance, the famous Sagrada Familia is huge, but there is also a museum in the same location, you may enjoy visiting.

Quick tip: a specialized guide can help you skip the ticket lines that most tourists must face.

Another building you must see in Barcelona is Casa Mila, which is another creation of Antoni Gaudi, the architect behind Sagrada Familia. Also known as the stone quarry, this masterpiece features a unique style that you must see up close. You have the possibility to explore the building and even go up to the roof, where you can inspect the whimsical chimneys.

But Gaudi didn’t stop here! His genius gave several other unique masterpieces such as Casa Batlló and Park Güell.

The History

I honestly recommend taking about a week to visit all the important locations when it comes to history. Starting with the Gothic Quarter, where you’ll explore old and narrow cobblestone streets (dating back to the Romans), and moving up to the City History Museum you’ll have a lot to learn, visit, and take in!

I strongly recommend visiting King’s Square, a square inside the Gothic Quarter that dates back to the 14th century. The square and the royal palace take you way back to medieval times, and the experience is uncanny!

The Culture

There is a lot to learn about Catalonia and the Catalans (pay attention: not Spanish!). People who live in Barcelona and its surroundings don’t identify as Spanish first and foremost – they are proud to be Catalans, and they won’t forgive you if you don’t understand the difference!

Their culture is incredibly diverse and includes anything from famous painters (Picasso and Miró museums) to the craziness that surrounds the La Rambla region. Catalans are people who enjoy life at a slow pace, so you may not get speedy service. But you will get an open heart and a beautiful smile every time you address the locals (if you’re nice to them of course).

The Food

Being a city of tourists, you should find all sorts of cuisines, but I strongly recommend trying the local foods. Visit the La Boqueria Market and taste fresh fruits, fish, and spices! Then choose a local tavern and ask for tapas – each location has its unique recipe, so they’ll never taste the same.

The food in Barcelona is simple, without a heavy gravy or too many spices, which is why it tastes better and feels natural in your mouth.

The Beach

The city is one of the most important ports in Europe, so you shouldn’t miss a visit to the port. But you shouldn’t ignore the beaches either! The sand feels amazing and the water gives you a chance to adventure if you like scuba diving or water sports.

Overall, this is one of those cities that has something for everyone!
