If you’re someone who has a passion for cars as much as you have a love of travel, then why not combine the two interests together and explore the world in a quest to see the biggest and best motorsport events?
Las Vegas
Las Vegas is best known for being the casino capital of the world, but it has faced a lot of competition in that regard in recent years. In the US alone, many other cities have opened up gaming establishments, most notably Atlantic City in New Jersey.
On top of that, the iGaming industry has brought casino gaming into the 21st century by allowing players to enjoy card games, table games, and slot games from the comfort of their own homes or anywhere else with an internet connection. Many of these sites also now offer casino bonuses to new players as a way to encourage them to sign up to their platform over a competitor’s. These promotions can vary greatly from state to state, but can sometimes be worth sizable sums.
With that in mind, Las Vegas has a lot of competition. To combat this, it has diversified into offering a much wider range of entertainment in addition to its casino games. This entertainment includes live converts, shopping, clubs, thrill rides and trade shows. One of its most successful ‘side hustles’ has been sport. Boxing, MMA, basketball, football, and hockey all have a strong presence in the city.
Motorsport is also a big part of the Las Vegas portfolio. In the 1980s, the city hosted rounds of the Formula 1 World Championship with the Caesar’s Palace Grand Prix, though the track didn’t receive much warmth from drivers or fans.
F1 will be returning to Las Vegas in 2023, with the cars racing along the city’s famous strip during the night, allowing the cars to shimmer and shine as they pass the neon lights of the casinos. At other times of the year, NASCAR visits the city through the Cup Series, Xfinity Series and Craftsman Truck Series. So, no matter when you’re thinking of visiting, you’ll likely be able to find some high-octane action.
Singapore
Singapore is another city that’s got famous casinos right at its heart, though its history of gaming doesn’t go back quite as far as Las Vegas. The city-state also has plenty of exciting things to see and do, with something for everyone. If you love nature and stunning architecture, then Singapore definitely has plenty for you thanks to attractions like the Gardens by the Bay, Chani Bay Point, and Rifle Range Nature Park.
For petrolheads, there’s also the annual motorsports spectacular that is the Singapore Grand Prix. Each year in September or October, many of the city’s streets are closed to allow the world’s best drivers and fastest cars to take over and hold the original F1 night race.
Macau
Not too far from Singapore is Macau, with flights taking around four hours. This former Portuguese colony is now part of China and has become yet another hotspot for casino gaming. But it’s not just blackjack that makes this island famous, in the motorsport world it’s the Macau Grand Prix. First run in 1954 as a sports car event, the race has been an open-wheel event since the early 1960s.
F1 cars don’t make it to Macau, but many of the world’s best up-and-coming drivers do. They race their Formula 3 cars around the twisty streets. These are also supported by a program of other categories, which often include FIA GT cars, the World Touring Car Championship and other junior series. The circuit has a strong reputation for being gruelling and uncompromising, with many major accidents occurring there over the years. There is even one corner that is so tight the organizers use a permanent yellow flag in that section to prevent drivers from attempting overtakes there.
It is a unique event and one that petrolheads should definitely experience once. The Macau Grand Prix is similar to the race in Monaco in that it wouldn’t be permitted as a new venue today but remains on the calendar because of tradition.
