A not so common, yet wonderful, way of spending a day, learning and having fun while traveling in South Florida is to visit a botanical Garden. Places like these are great for learning about plants while being in the middle of a calm environment.
2 Botanical Gardens in Florida you should check out:
Mounts Botanical Garden – This botanical garden in Florida features many different plant species arranged in a way that makes it an interesting and calm place for walking, relaxing, having a picnic and enjoying the different smells.
You can visit and explore the place on your own for suggested donation of $5 per person. But you can also book a guided tour, however keep in mind that they require a minimum of 10 people. If you are spending a large amount of time in the area and love gardening and plants, ask about their volunteering program.
Morikami Museum and Japanese Garden – This place is mainly a museum surrounded by a Japanese garden in Florida that is inspired by the some of the most beautiful, original gardens of Japan. The whole place is dedicated to telling the story of the Yamato Colony, a Japanese farming community in South Florida over 100 years old and to teach about the ancient Japanese culture.
In addition they have an interactive children’s exhibit, a picnic area and small lakes making this place perfect for people of all ages.
They also offer classes on how to grow the tiny bonsai.
NOTE: when you visit these or any other garden, please don’t forget to be very careful with the plants, don’t climb trees and don’t collect fruits of flowers.
