One month before the inauguration of the initial Maya Train section, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador unveiled the upcoming ticket sale dates during his morning conference at the National Palace.
Spanning over 1,500 kilometers of tracks, the Maya Train’s route encompasses the states of Tabasco, Campeche, Quintana Roo, and Yucatán. However, for its initial launch, it will exclusively operate in Campeche, Yucatán, and Quintana Roo, with the remaining segments scheduled for inauguration in early 2024.
“On the 15th, we will officially open the Campeche-Cancun section, which is already completed,” declared the president.
The inaugural event for the general public is planned for December 15 of this year, with ticket sales commencing on December 1, as confirmed by the president.
Regarding pricing, the president underscored that Maya Train fares will be up to 10 percent more affordable than bus fares, with the aim of establishing economical travel options to boost tourism in underserved communities.
“The specific fare is yet to be determined, pending authorization, but it will be 10 percent less expensive than bus fares.”
It’s noteworthy to recall that in 2018, the National Tourism Fund (Fonatur) introduced a pricing proposal for Maya Train tickets, outlining potential variations for national and international passengers, students, and educators, though these have not been officially established as of yet.
The forthcoming Maya Train project, in tandem with the construction of the new Tulum International Airport, is generating a buzz of excitement and growth throughout the entire Riviera Maya region and neighboring areas. As these ambitious infrastructure developments take shape, local communities, businesses, and tourism sectors are poised for significant expansion and transformation.
