Miguel Torruco Marqués, Director of the Secretariat of Tourism (Sectur), reported that 3,122 cruise ships will call at the different ports of the country in 2024. This represents an increase of 8% compared to cruises received in 2023.
It is estimated that around 711.9 million dollars will be taken in. This represents an increase of 7.6% compared to 2023 and exceeds 2019 revenues by 13.7%. The average expenditure per tourist is USD 100 per passenger.
Cozumel will also record the most cruise arrivals in the country and the Caribbean this year, accounting for 38.4% of all ships that arrive at Mexican ports.
In the Pacific region, Ensenada is the port with the most passengers, recording 8.9% of the total number of cruises nationwide, followed by Cabo San Lucas, which has already recorded 225 arrivals during the year, representing 7.2% of the total number of arrivals nationwide.
According to the Mexican Cruise Association’s figures for 2024, it is estimated that Cabo San Lucas will exceed 600,000 cruise ship arrivals, highlighting the arrival of triple and quadruple arrivals during the high season.
Over 100 cruises were received by Quintana Roo in the first two weeks of 2024
Over 100 cruise ships called at Quintana Roo’s ports of Cozumel and Mahahual in the first 14 days of 2024, securing the area’s top spot in cruise tourism. Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa emphasized that this accomplishment is good news for the cruise industry as well as for the nation’s economy as a whole.
The “New Agreement for the Welfare and Development of Quintana Roo” seeks to draw in more cruise ships and lengthen their stays. After over 5 million visitors on 1,500 ships last year, the region expects a record-breaking year with 106 ships arriving in early 2024.
Not only is Cozumel Port the most popular port for round-trip cruises from the United States to the Western Caribbean, but it is also the fourth-largest cruise port in the world in terms of docking capacity and yearly cruise traffic.
