Appalachian Trail

The Appalachian Trail is a marked hiking trail that extends between Springer Mountain in Georgia and Mount Katahdin in Maine. The trail is about 2,200miles long, though the true length changes as sections are modified and rerouted. This hike-only trail passes through 14 states including Georgia, North Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine, and passes through all kinds of territories from wilderness and forests, to towns, roads and farms. While not everyone has the time to hike the entire stretch, you can pick a section to hike that appeals the most to you.

Grand Canyon

While this could technically be considered cliché, the Grand Canyon is still an ideal location for an adventure break. Measuring approximately 27 miles in length, around 18 miles in width, and a mile in-depth, this natural wonder is truly worth seeing at least once in your life. This UNESCO World Heritage site is a popular destination for hikers and has about 4.5 million visitors per year alone. If you don’t want to hike the whole way to the southern rim, consider the shuttle bus service! Public transport can be a more effective and efficient way of getting to the Grand Canyon, too, as driving yourself will see you stuck in busy roads and overcrowded parking lots.

Yosemite

Known as one of California’s best and most awe-inspiring landscapes, Yosemite Natural Park is perfect for an adventure break. With towering waterfalls, ancient Sequoia trees, adrenaline rush-worthy cliff faces, and some unique rock formations to top it all off, this park is everything a hiker or mountain climber could want. Even the inexperienced adventure vacationer can enjoy Yosemite, with guided hikes and climbing lessons available to make it all the more accessible.

Maui

While Maui isn’t as big as ‘The Big Island’ in Hawaii or as bustling as Oahu, Maui is often thought of as ‘just right’ by its visitors. Maui has plenty of charms, with its extensive wildlife and extensive history and interesting culture. You can learn hula, go golfing along coastal fairways, go snorkeling alongside sea turtles, hike along a volcano or two and if this all gets too much, you can finish off your break by relaxing on the beaches. This location has no shortage of things to do, and with stunning sights to top it all off, so it’s well worth a visit to this island.
