Whether you are doing a cross-country road trip, just exploring the coast, or trying to cross a few spots off of your bucket list, there are plenty of places to see on the East Coast that will make the best memories. From the historic beaches to the miles and miles of white sand, there is plenty to do on the East Coast to keep you busy for months. No matter what you or whoever you are traveling with are interested in, there is something to entertain everyone. So if you find yourself traveling down the East Coast Island here are a few of our favorite stops that you must check out for yourself.
The Outer Banks
Recently growing in popularity from the Netflix original series, the Outer Banks has always been the perfect island vacation, especially if you are interested in surfing. The barrier islands sit off of the East Coast in North Carolina. You can head down to the OBX and ride horses on the beach, see where the first flight took place, and even visit shipwreck diving sites. The pace is much slower here and there are many things to explore on the island. Whether you are traveling by yourself, with friends, your family, or your significant other, you won’t be disappointed here. You will feel as if you have experienced a little piece of paradise visiting here.
North Myrtle Beach
North Myrtle Beach offers island vibes without the stiff prices. North Myrtle Beach is nestled between the Atlantic Ocean and the Intracoastal Waterway. Whether you are coming for a day or staying for a month during winter, you won’t be disappointed. We recommend you come during the off-season, so you can experience everything the city has to offer without loads of traffic in lines. From water sports to museums and much more, Myrtle Beach, South Carolina is a great place to stop along the way of your road trip.
St. Simons Island
Located off the coast of Georgia, St. Simons Island is a barrier island that is quaint, cozy, and everything a tropical vacation needs to be. From the small-town vibe to the beautiful nature parks, St. Simons Island is a wonderful place to visit no matter the time of year. Explore the rich history of this city as it takes you back to the early 1900’s to learn what life was like back then. The weather stays between 65-70 even in the winter and reaches around 90-100 in the summer. Bring your family, or travel solo, this island getaway is a must-experience.
Anna Maria Island
Known for its gorgeous and romantic beaches, incredible restaurants, and spectacular shops, this island is perfect for a day of sitting back and relaxing. This barrier island is located in the Gulf of Mexico only 20 minutes away from Bradenton. You can take a short trip to Tampa or stay on the island and experience everything it has to offer. The island is known as being one of the best kept
secrets among Floridians, as it offers beautiful sugar-white sand beaches, Emerald green and blue gulf waters, and much more.
Key Largo
Key Largo is the first and northernmost city of the Florida Keys. It is known for its second-largest Artificial Reef in the world. If you are a diver or want to be a diver, this is one of the best dive spots in the US. There is nothing like finding yourself underwater, surrounded by spectacular wildlife in their natural habitat. Scroll down the street and recognize some of your favorite movie scenes that have been shot in this area as well as take in all of the beautiful cultures in history that the island has to offer. If you aren’t relaxing out on the spectacular beaches, there is plenty to do in the town to keep you busy.
No matter the time or place you choose to visit, you will have a great time. It is important to remember to unwind, disconnect, and just embrace your surroundings. From parasailing to island hopping in the OBX, we know you will have a great vacation no matter where you go. For more ideas on islands and locations check here.
