October 22 – Chile is at a Level 2 advisory: Exercise increased caution
Tourists can still feel safe in Chile, but there have been large-scale demonstrations in Santiago and other cities. Most of these demonstrations take place sporadically with no notice and may disrupt transportation and daily activities.
Tourists are advised to be aware of their surroundings, avoid demonstrations, keep a low profile, abide by local authorities, obey curfews, shelter in place during protests, and monitor local media.

Depending on where you are in the world, you may be used to traveling via Lyft or Uber. In some countries, those aren’t alternatives, so you’re at the mercy of the local transportation options. Taxi drivers are known to take advantage of their customers, so make sure you ask for the meter to be turned on when you get into the taxi and have your own GPS working to see how long the trip should take. Once you have this information, ask the driver how long the trip will be. This can help in determining whether they are trying to overcharge you for a ride to your destination.
