Bali has seen a series of serious accidents this week that have led to new safety advisories. Two visitors vacationing on the island died in two separate incidents.
In another case, the police were called very early in the morning to help a tourist who was in distress.
A 22-year-old German traveler going by the initials MT was watching the sunset with his girlfriend at the Pura Luhur Sriojng viewpoint at around 5:45 p.m. Tuesday.
The couple took a cab to the temple and to the sunset viewpoint. Then, they strolled directly to the viewpoint to take photos of the sunset and the beach below.
Tragically, MT moved too close to the edge of the cliff during filming, lost its balance and fell 15 meters.
After seeing him fall, his distraught girlfriend immediately called the cab driver to come to his aid. Selemadeg police immediately received a report of the incident. He may have died from the impact, according to the police.
This week’s tragedy is a sobering reminder to tourists to always be aware of their surroundings, especially on dangerous cliffs and when snapping pictures.
A 53-year-old German tourist died Wednesday, July 27, as a result of a boat collision in the Nusa Penida area.
Although the responsibility of the boat captains for the tragedy has already been publicly announced, the head of public relations of the Bali police, Kombespol Jansen Avitus Panjaitan, said that the investigation is still ongoing.
A 34-year-old male visitor was discovered naked on the road in the early hours of Wednesday in Kutuh village near Uluwatu.
A passerby on his way to work called the local police and public services out of concern for his welfare.
When authorities responded to the incident, they learned that the man had a history of sleepwalking and was taking medication, which may have contributed to his alarming behavior.
Police have warned him because of his medical history, but since videos of the incident went online, many people are calling for his deportation.
To maintain the island’s reputation as a safe place for all, Bali authorities are committed to cracking down on rude and illegal behavior by visitors. To achieve this, both the authorities and the tourists themselves must work together.
