Aaron Rodgers has yet to officially announce his intentions for the 2022 NFL season. The Green Bay Packers signal-caller could rejoin his current teammates, or he could even retire from football (which seems unlikely). However, according to Hall of Famer Terrell Davis, people should be taking the Denver Broncos seriously.
The legendary Broncos running back doesn’t see Rodgers to Denver as simply a theory. Instead, he believes the marriage is actually a strong possibility. Davis recently weighed in on why Empower Field at Mile High could be the MVP’s new stomping grounds.
Terrell Davis predicts Broncos will land Aaron Rodgers
Terrell Davis spent his entire seven-year NFL career with the Denver Broncos. He still roots for the team and is very well-connected with the organization. So he means business when he claims that the Aaron Rodgers speculation is gaining traction.
In a recent appearance on FanDuel‘s More Ways to Win, the Hall of Fame running back revealed why he’s all-in on the Rodgers to Denver hype train.
“I do,” Davis said when asked if he thinks Rodgers would be the next Broncos quarterback. “I’m not playing, I’m serious. I’ve heard from too many insiders, too many sources. It makes too much sense for us not to get Aaron Rodgers. That’s the talk of Denver. It sounds like that is the most likely scenario for the Broncos.”
The retired running back also suggests that Nathaniel Hackett’s hiring as head coach is a bonus for the Packers star to switch teams.
“It helps that Nathaniel Hackett, his old OC, is our head coach now,” Davis added. “I’m not saying that was the reason, but that helps.”
How Nathaniel Hackett could influence a potential trade
When the Denver Broncos hired Nathaniel Hackett to be their new head coach, the speculation about Aaron Rodgers joining the team reached an all-time high.
Hackett spent the past three seasons as the Green Bay Packers offensive coordinator. He held the same position with the Buffalo Bills and Jacksonville Jaguars before that.
The Broncos top brass appeared to be setting the stage for Rodgers to come to Denver. Hiring his offensive coordinator was the first domino. Whether the four-time NFL MVP wants to play there or not is anyone’s guess at this point.
According to USA TODAY Sports‘ Brendan Sugrue, the new head coach is pushing hard to reunite with Rodgers in Denver. The familiarity between the two could certainly come into play should Green Bay be willing to deal the 10-time Pro Bowl quarterback.
Aaron Rodgers has kept his cards pretty close to his chest up to this point, so his plans are a mystery. Still, if any team can pull him away from the Packers, it’s the Broncos.
Can Rodgers win a Super Bowl in Denver?
Terrell Davis appeared adamant that the Denver Broncos would win the Aaron Rodgers sweepstakes if he returns for an 18th NFL season.
While the Hall of Fame running back could be onto something, it’s still difficult to imagine Rodgers playing anywhere but Green Bay. Matt LaFleur’s squad finished with a 13-4 record, good for the NFC North crown and the No. 1 seed in the conference. The season ended earlier than expected, but the Packers have the talent to run it back in 2022.
Rodgers could be seeking a change of scenery, though, given the drama of the past few seasons. Denver could be an intriguing landing spot for the veteran signal-caller on the football field.
The Broncos posted a 7-10 record in 2021, but they have some solid pieces in place. Javonte Williams is a promising running back who flashed brilliance as a rookie. Jerry Jeudy, Courtland Sutton, Tim Patrick, and Noah Fant form a strong receiving corps. Denver also ranked third in team defense. Quarterback is the team’s glaring weakness, and Rodgers is one of the best in the business.
Adding Rodgers doesn’t guarantee immediate success, not to mention a Super Bowl. Sure, it would be a massive step in the right direction. However, Rodgers would still have to get through Patrick Mahomes, Josh Allen, Joe Burrow, Lamar Jackson, and Justin Herbert just to make it out of the AFC.
If a Super Bowl is what Aaron Rodgers is after, the Packers are likely his best bet.
